In a place that once pioneered the fragrance industry, a new chapter is beginning for Marc vom Ende. Since August 2026, the renowned perfumer has been strengthening the team at Bell Flavors & Fragrances’ Leipzig site in his role as Master Perfumer and Fragrance Consultant.
Marc vom Ende to enforce Bell perfumery team
Von Ende’s career as a perfumer spans decades. His professional career has taken him to Berlin, Hamburg, Holzminden, New York and Paris. His creations range from fine fragrances and cosmetics to hair, body and home care products. He also trained whole generations of up-and-coming perfumers as the head of perfumery schools.
Making raw material knowledge systematically accessible
At the heart of von Ende’s work at Bell will be the combination of his experience as a perfumer with a systematic analysis of existing knowledge of raw materials. Data-driven development will enable Bell’s perfumers to access the right ingredients for their compositions even more quickly and precisely.
This is in line with the ongoing development of the raw materials portfolio, with a particular focus on functional properties such as odour masking and blooming – that is, the way fragrances fill a room. A critical examination of artificial intelligence as a complementary tool for making well-founded, data-driven decisions is also essential.
Marc vom Ende is a perfumer who combines experience, scientific rigour and expertise in training. This is a key element in further strengthening our position as a creative and development partner.
A site steeped in history
The Leipzig/Miltitz site led the way in the modern fragrance industry. Schimmel & Co. was founded in 1829 as a trading house. It developed into one of the first companies to base perfumery on scientific principles. Schimmel was the first company in the industry to open its own industrial research laboratory in 1879. Working closely with Otto Wallach, who would later be awarded the Nobel Prize, fundamental insights into the chemistry of terpenes were gained here. The company set a quality standard that guided international trade in essential oils for decades with the ‘Schimmel’s Test’.
In 1993, Bell took over the Miltitz facilities, acquiring a legacy spanning almost two centuries of research tradition in the chemistry of essential oils.
